Decoding Eurocode 7 on geotechnical design in Singapore

Synopsis

The Singapore Building Construction Authority (BCA) has organized a series of courses on Eurocode 7 to be delivered by Dr Andrew Bond at the BCA Academy. Based on Geocentrix's popular 'Decoding Eurocode 7' courses delivered in the UK, these courses are now in their third successive year.

Pre-requisites

The 'Introduction ...' course requires no prior knowledge of Eurocode 7 and is an essential 'starter' for the more specialized 'Design of ...' courses (pile foundations and sheet pile walls).

Dates in 2008 for the Singapore public courses

• Introduction to Eurocode 7 Parts 1 and 2 - 2nd October
• Design of pile foundations - 3rd October
• Design of sheet pile walls - 6th October

• Verification of strength (GEO/STR)
• Verification of stability (UPL/HYD/EQU)
• Verification of serviceability
• Overview of the investigation standards
• EN 1997-2 Ground investigation and testing
• Ground characterization
• Reporting (GDR and GIR)

Day 2: Design of pile foundations using Eurocode 7

• Introduction
• Basis of geotechnical design
• Design of pile foundations
• Workshop (pile design by calculation)
• Field testing of pile foundations
• Workshop (pile design by testing)
• Execution of pile foundations

Day 3: Design of sheet pile walls using Eurocode 7

• Introduction
• Basis of geotechnical design
• Design of embedded walls
• Workshop (anchored retaining wall)
• Design of steel sheet piles
• Workshop (structural design of sheet pile section)
• Execution of sheet pile walls
