Fix for installation problems caused by Update 20

In the thread ''Network errors' during installation of update" (http://www.geocentrix.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=163), some users have reported problems installing Update 21 owing to problems caused by Update 20. With the help of Brian Napper of TPS Consult (thanks :P), we now have a solution for anyone who has been affected:

  1. Download Microsoft's MSI Cleanup Utility from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
  2. Install and run the utility (which is called msicuu2.exe) on your PC
  3. Locate the entry '(All Users) ReWaRD [2.5.20.806]' and click the Remove button
  4. Try installing Update 21 again

Please let us know if you have encoutered this problem and - more importantly - that this fix works for you.

And our apologies to all those who have been inconvenienced by this problem.

After visiting the page linked by http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 the file that I found in there is WindowsXP-KB924867-x86-PTB.exe and not msicuu2.exe as you wrote. Anyway I dowloaded that file and tried to install but I didnt work it. Please confiem the link posted at the last message.

Somthing is odd, here. If I click the link given in both your post and mine, I go to a page on the Microsoft Help and Support site titled:

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility


and on that page is a section titled:

Download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility


and in that section is a link:

Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now


Here is the direct link to the program MSICUU2:

i had executed the file but I didnt understand the step 3 (Locate the entry '(All Users) ReWaRD [2.5.20.806]' and click the Remove button).
Ps. By the way my version is still the 17, the one that came with the software when I purchase it.

When you run the program, search down the list box for an entry labelled:

'(All Users) ReWaRD [2.5.17.510]'

or

'(Your login name) ReWaRD [2.5.17.510]'

and delete that entry.
